D.S.C.'s Express Trios at PJ's had a good run last time. It's been a little bit over a month since the last season ended paying out a nice 1200.00 between first & second. Well now that I've seen how things go, this time around, I'm giving every one a chance at the money by paying the teams for each win. Should help add some competitiveness to tho whole thing.

If you don't know what Express Trios is, here's the quick and skinny. There's no handicap at all, instead teams are asked to fit within a 65 point skill cap, making the field level for all that play. The teams play each other once, 9 games make a match. The matches are cheaper and quicker than a normal league. It's a blast, and a little tricky to get used to the format. There's allot of cricket played, infact the only time the players play '01 is to play their singles match. Anyways, it's a blast and a good way to unwind during a Tuesday night.

Well the deadline came and went for the Express Trio’s league. I can see that summer is in full swing, only a handful of teams signed up. Though I may be at fault this time around, I haven’t been beating the bushes like I should have been. Anyways, the deadline to sign up has been extended to July 6th. That gives me a little time to fix the schedule and notify teams. So if you’re interested in playing, give myself (Dupes 229-3093) or Hallie a ring (301-8128).

Etc/GMT-8

This is the closing day for Express Trios. A fun format that's different from the long seasons we've become used to. If you want to play, this is the last day for sign up.

The Express Trios at PJ’s wrapped up the first season with playoffs last night. Let me tell you, the four teams that were there for their chance at the money all played well and it showed why they were the top 4. We tried to get the matches rolling at 7pm, which actually we were able to get the Money Pit versus Arctic Wolves match going on time. Not the say that the Game Over versus Pineapple & Mixed Nuts match didn’t fly through once it got started. In fact the Game Over match wrapped up before the Money Pit.

The Game Over versus Pineapple & Mixed Nuts match may have started late, but it didn’t take Eddie Wimberly long to take control of things. Grabbing a quick 4 – 0 lead it was looking like Game Over may sweep, but then, as with all good things, Pineapple jumped up to grab a few games of their own. The final score 5-2 Game Over claimed the win.

I watched the first Money Pit versus Arctic Wolves game. Money Pit had backed the Wolves into the 16 / 15 corner when things changed. Arctic Wolves fought back and punched the Money Pit in the nose. The lesson was learned, and Money Pit corrected it’s game play. I did see the Money Pit at a 200 pit sink hole as the Wolves grabbed another game. At the end, Money Pit managed to get to the magic 5 wins only letting the Wolves grab 3 games.

So with both teams now in the money, the two winners battled it out for how much cash they would take home. Money Pit versus Game Over took to a board neither team played on and battled against one another. Games were won on slight mistakes by the other team or outstanding darts when needed. I witnessed Duane tossing a 3 in the bed, with his teammate Matt backing him up with one. All and all, a match that I didn’t mind watching and not playing in, it was finally the whole of why I started this league. In the end Money Pit was 5 to Game Over’s 3.

1st Money Pit $900.00
2nd Game Over $300.00

In closing for the first season, looking through the score sheets, I have to say. MVP for the league would have to be Duane Flajole. Though he may not carry the big average, time and time again he came through scoring big darts, clutch darts I would say, to keep his team winning. Good Job Duane! Once again I have to thank every one that braved my format and style. I think we had an awesome time and things can only grow from here.

We’ll be doing another league in about a month’s time, taking sign up until 7/1/08. Think this time around we’ll pay out $3 a game won to the teams, to give every one a chance to collect some back. The playoff payouts will be a little weaker, but still better than a 20 week season of Medalist and by far cheaper too. If you have any questions, feel free to give me a ring, my number is all over the place. If enough teams are interested, I may even look into making a higher cap for a different division maybe around 75 to get some other players involved, though the competition would be very different, I’d have to have at least 6 teams willing to play in a stronger level. It’s just a thought, we’ll have to see what comes of it. Anyways, next season starts 7/8/08, see you all then.

And just like that the express season is over. 7 weeks have come and gone. Every one has played every one once. No handicap, no reason for stat control, and honestly, in my opinion, a good group willing to have a good time. I have to say, it was a close race all the way through. Money Pit was the only undefeated team working their way through the 7 weeks. People may ask how I chose to put Game Over in second over Pineapple, well I looked at who won the match they played against one an other. I was slightly surprised not to see any perfect ’01 games thrown. I guess 301 is harder than it looks. I want to thank every one that played and filled in on the teams as they worked their way through the quick season.

Here’s the Final Four, Money Pit (Matt, Tiny, & Duane), Game Over (Eddie W., Margaret & Heather), Pineapple & Nuts (Conrad, Casey & Eddie W.), & Arctic Wolves (Shawn, Danielle, & Randy). These are the people that qualified to shoot on the teams and should be at the playoffs. As I’ve said before, 1st will play 4th & 2nd will play 3rd in a race to 5. Not even going to guess what quarters will be because every match could be different, the least amount would be 5 games straight at $3.75 a team. I’d like to wrap it up and payout that night to, so let’s start the matches at 7:00 on 6/3/08.

A match will be a race to 5 games.
All games will be Trio’s Cricket stacked.
Teams will lock in their throwing order at the start of the match & will not change for that match.
The Home team will diddle first, winner of the diddle will start the match.
All games will be looser start, but the 9th.
If a 9th game is needed, looser of the original diddle has the option (show or follow) on the diddle. Winner of the diddle starts the game.

If there’s any questions feel free to call me. No subs, these are the people that qualified to shoot. Take care and thanks again.

A few questions were asked about the playoffs, so here’s the info. As I’ve said from day one, I’m taking the top 4 teams & paying out the top 2. Players must have played in 4 matches in order to be qualified to shoot in playoffs.

Well with one week left in the season things are shaping up rather well. The battles have been close in a lot of matches, and some teams have had to make changes here at the end. Usually I give a run down on how the matches went, but with next week being the last one before playoffs I thought I’d tell you a little about the teams themselves.

Money Pit – Since week one this team has kept running and hasn’t looked back. Simons, Duane & Tiny have managed to do what it takes to keep the team going with a couple guest appearances from Hallie. Also one other thing to mention, this is one of the 2 teams that actually didn’t have any make up games all season. Holding on to 36 wins at the moment, they sit in 1st place, I’m almost sure we’ll see them in the playoffs.

Pineapple & nuts – Conrad, Casey & Eddie Williams have been trucking along just fine, grabbing wins or keeping matches close. I think the format never even fazed this team at all. What was an odd addition was when Eddie had to be away for a while, I got to step in for a few games. With 32 points this team sits in 2nd and should be able to make it into the playoffs.

Game Over – Eddie Wimberly, Margaret & Heather D. makes up this squad, but I’m torn, should I name them Sleeping Beauties? The format has really been a thorn in Eddie’s side most this season, and guess what, the season is almost over. A couple times subs had to be used, so the team also saw Alvin & Stephanie for a couple games. Now you’ll notice Heather’s use of a walker, and the boot they’re hoping to kick teams in the ass with. They’re sitting in 3rd with 30 points at the moment, but Arctic Wolves are a match behind and on their butts.

Arctic Wolves – Shawn, Danielle, & Randy have been going along, grabbing a few games as they come. They had a couple make up games to take care of, still one out there to be wrapped up on. David stepped in for Randy one match, helping the team keep on track. With 27 wins they’re sitting in 4th but a whole match behind every one else. Games yet to be played are against D.D.’s Rodeo & Money Pit, so it could be a close one.

Easy Come – Robert, Cajun & Tina started off the season, but after a little flaking out, Tina was quickly replaced by Heather W. I have to say, it was a good replacement for the guys. The team grabs games here and there, but most importantly, they’re a fun group. With 24 point they sit in the 5th spot uncomfortably as the team ahead of them and the team behind them are both shy a match that will be played. This coming week they’ll face D.D.’s Rodeo who’s looking for a big jump to get into the playoffs.

D.D.’s Rodeo – Bill, Joe & Pagel were thrown together and haven’t done at all that bad. With Andrea filling in here and there, the team has for the most part been able to keep on track. They are however in a close battle for that 4th spot, and with the chance to grab it. They get to play Easy Come & Arctic Wolves for their chance to grab enough point to jump over their competition. With 21 points they’re sitting in the 6th spot with one match to makeup.

The Boss – Danny, Lexi, & Gary, what’s there to say about these guys. They’re here to have a good time and play some darts. Though Hallie has had to step in to finish off the season, as there’s almost always a player missing, they still manage to get matches played. A little less running around, & a bit more focus this could have been a good team. With 18 points they’re tied for 7th at the moment.

Gotcha – Linz, Oshea, & Kim another one of my teams I made up at the last moment, started off strong. Todd B., has made a couple guest spot and Travis was good enough to jump in and finish the season off. For these guys it’s the small things in life that matter. I’m hoping they’ll return for the next express league. Tied at the moment with The Boss at 18 points, they’re in 7th.

I have to say, looking at the numbers, the teams are fairly close, and the only one that’s really pulled away form the pack is Money Pit but could still easily be caught when all the teams get their games caught up. Now I know I’m a bad, bad person, I was at the matches last night. Sorry, but the chance for a day off from darts sprung it’s head and I took it. Here’s how the matches played out.

Matt phone in to tell me how the match played out against The Boss. From what I heard The Boss could have very easily been named The Family, as Hallie stepped in for a missing in action Gary. Danny came in late, as always, seems to be becoming a more common thing each week. Close matches, all the way down to the last one, but in the end it was Money Pit grabbing the bill and leaving The Boss with the loss 5 to 4.

DD’s Rodeo brought in the good ole grandma luck of Andrea against Gotcha. From what I heard, it was just a run away, as Joe had a moment of cricket greatness. There maybe life left in the Rodeo after all. In the end DD’s Rodeo had their 8 seconds of fun over Gotcha 8 to 1.

Gameover & Pineapple & mixed nuts had to reschedule, happy anniversary Margaret and Bill Hale. It was this time a few years back a group of us got to watch Margaret ball her eyes out at the alter. Anyways, this match will be made up here shortly.

Easy Come against the Arctic Wolves. Hmmm, what to say about a match like this. Here’s some thing Easy Come grabbed another win with their edition of Heather Wimberly. Nice job guys. I’m sure the Arctic Wolves will be looking to get back on track here in the near future. Easy Come over the Wolves 5-4.

I’m not sure why some people’s kids have problems with common courtesy, but it appears that even in darts it still runs through. Please, if for some reason, you’re going to be late, or need to reschedule a match, contact your opponents with enough time for them to make arrangements. If you’re running late, call the bar and let some one know, or better yet your teammates. To often have I seen people that strolled in late while every one is waiting for them or a complete team not show at all.

On to another topic, as I was trying to handle some other business, some one came to me with an attempt to have me change my mind on how the playoffs are going to go. Though, I do understand why people may like this persons method, it’s not what I was looking to do for an express league or what was set at the time play began. There’s nothing worse than changing things half way through. So for this year, I’m sticking to the top 4 for playoffs and paying out the top 2. Should push the teams to be competitive, something that’s been lacking in Alaska soft-tips for a long while.

Enough rants, here’s the results:

Pineapple & Nuts against the Boss was a close battle once The Boss captain, Danny McGinnis showed up. The match started about 20 minutes late, but quickly got on it’s way once the darts were being thrown. Pineapple squeezed out a win 5 to 4.

Easy Come were up against Gotcha, both teams using a sub. A big turn around for Easy Come, as they 6x their score from the past 2 weeks. Maybe that sub is a lucky charm. Not the normal Gotcha playing last night, captain Linz had a bit of the crud keeping him down. Easy Come for their first win 7 to 2.

Money Pit was against Game Over and brought in their lucky charm, Hallie. Well it worked out, though I have to say, Game Over captain Eddie Wimberly is yet to show up in true form. The new format is a little rough on him. Either way, seeing strange outs and what not, Money Pit grabbed the win. Money Pit 6 to 3

D.D. Rodeo showed up, that’s about it. The complete Arctic Wolves team failed to show. No call, No show. Very poor form….
Sean, please call Joe Rose 830-8770 or Bill Hale 350-6640 about rescheduling. The D.D. Rodeo made arrangements with a sub and were all there ready to play. If not, let me know, pay the $30.00 for the match and I’ll give D.D.’s their points. Thanks!

Week 3
D.D.'s Rodeo @ Arctic Wolves

We dove into week 2, going in I knew about some folks being out of state. That team made arrangements and the other team was aware. Now the surprise, well, I actually don’t find it as a surprise, but The Boss failed to field a full team. No big surprise, just more of a pain than anything else. Now I have to track down the money envelope and the score sheet, blah blah blah. Anyways here’s how the matches played out.

Money Pit came up against snoozing Easy Come. Matt paid his penitence to his teammates for the week before and paid their fee for the night. I checked in often, but failed to see many marks on Easy Comes side. Well, I’m sure Robert and Cajun are just waiting for a special moment.

DD’s Rodeo tried to get Game Over into their 8 seconds of fun. Though Eddie struggled a little, his female teammates got him through until he was ready. Joe got his first feel for the format, and Joe thank you for reading the rules across the bottom. His score sheet, flawless. Perfect score sheet and all, Game Over wasn’t having any of the Rodeo.

Gotcha was waiting, and then heard the news, The Boss was missing Gary. Would like to say it’s unheard of, but the shock isn’t there. Anyways, after The Boss captain Danny, talked to Gotcha then myself, the match will me made up. Play date 4/28, try to field a complete team this time Mr. McGinnis.

The Arctic Wolves were in Las Vegas, so the match was rescheduled from the start. That’s the way I like it, things handled properly and ahead of time.

I was thinking, I don’t think it’s out of place to make a team that can’t field the day of a match take a forfeit, pay both teams fees and give a 7-0 win, though that really sucks and I hope it doesn’t have to happen.
