What did you do last night? Sit at home watching reruns on TV or maybe prayed that the snow would go away someday. Well if you weren’t at the Moose, you missed an outstanding finals match for the Downtown dart league.
Top seeded Moose hosted number two seeded Cabin Tavern in the final match of the season to see who would claim the traveling trophy for this year.
Wearing team colors, Moose had nearly their entire team present, missing only one player. While the Cabin brought their solid four just like they had for most of the season. Cabin and Moose split the first round
of singles 2 – 2, with many well played match and several high scores turned in by the Cabin. So with neither team backing down, Moose changed the line-up in the second set of singles in an attempt to take control of the match. It worked, the second set went 3 – 1 for Moose giving them a 5 to 3 lead going into the doubles. The doubles also worked in the Moose’s favor as the Moose took the first three doubles to win the match 11 – 3 and claim the trophy (at least for this year).
You probably notice I haven’t said anything about high darts, well we had them and here is who did what.
All four players for the Cabin had outstanding scores. Pat had the hot hand of the night not only scoring a 140 and 125, but also starting a match with a 156 on against Dean and skunking Conrad. Helga also shot a 140 and a 133, while Rob chinned in with a 140 and Kristi added a 125.
Most of the Moose also turned in outstanding darts. Sean had two high on’s a 146 and a 120. Alvin shot a 129 and also had a 108 on. Both Dean and Mike shot a 140, while Conrad started a game with a 108. The only person who didn’t end up with a high score of some type was the Greek. I guess he was too busy shooting solid 85’s and Ton’s to worry about out’s or on’s.
With the final match of the season done, the only thing left to do is party, which we will do on 03/25/10 at the Hideaway. Start time will be 7:30 and we will be electing new officers, handing out prize money to all teams along with a few individual awards. All league members are encouraged to attend and enjoy the final league night.
See you at the Hideaway and if you have any questions, please give me a call.
Pat
Top seeds advance in round
two of the play-offs, but there were no easy matches.
Moose slipped a little this week when it lost a singles match on their way to a win over Pioneer A 11 – 1. I never did find out who actually lost the singles or for that matter who won for Pioneer. The only high darts reported was Alvin with a 102 out, so I guess I could rule him out.
Cabin Tavern is headed to the finals, beating Hideaway A 10 – 4 in what was a nail bitter most of the night. The Cabin and Hideaway ended the singles dead tied 4 to 4 with most games going three matches and neither team willing to back down. But that all changed when they got to the doubles as Cabin stepped up and won the next three doubles to wrap up the match. Pat had a good night shooting two Ton
-40’s and Kristi started one of her matches strong with a 101 on. Scott for Hideaway attempted to bring them back into the match hitting a 140, but he couldn’t rally the troops.
Next week’s final will be:
Moose Vs Cabin Tavern at the Moose
This is the final match of the season, so if you haven’t found the fishing rod just yet, come on out and watch the last two teams knock each other around.
Pat
This was the first week of the play-offs and all four of the top seeded teams advanced, although Flight Deck almost pulled an upset.
Moose rolled over Hideaway B 10 – 0, led by Conrad with a 140 and supported by Mike who shot a 132 and Dean a 121. Hideaway B did have one bright spot, Sam started one of his matches with a 118 on. Moose advances!
Cabin Tavern will also advance, beating Pioneer B 10 – 2. Chuck shot a 180 and also had a 105 on for the Cabin, but he wasn’t alone Pat shot a 121 and a 120 out, while Helga shot a 135. Josh for Pioneer tried to make a game of it, buy shooting a 140 and a 125. See Ya Next Year – Pioneer B.
Hideaway A turned the dogs lose and beat Buckaroo 11 – 1. Buckaroo turned in a couple of big scores with Mike hitting a 140 and Bob a 121. But Hideaway started three games with good on’s. Jason a 126, Tom a 120 and Scott a 114. Buckaroo You’re Out-of-here.
Final match of the night and I really mean it was the final match, lasting to almost midnight was Pioneer A and Flight Deck. Flight Deck started with a 6 – 2 lead after the singles, but couldn’t hold on as Pioneer fought back to win the match 11 – 8. Either Alan started slow or didn’t show-up until after the singles since he appears to the be the only big gun. Alan shot 3 Ton
-40’s and a 121 to lead the way for Pioneer. Caleb for Flight Deck also stepped up to the plate hitting a 140 and a 132 and was supported by Butch who shot a 121. Flight Deck can start getting ready for summer – because you’re done!
Next week’s matches are:
Moose Vs Pioneer A at the Moose
Cabin Tavern Vs Hideaway A at the Cabin
With two weeks left to go, the traveling trophy is still up for grabs. Good luck to all remaining teams.
Pat
Pioneer B ended the season on a high-note beating Hideaway B 19 to 0. Pioneer was led by Chief who took a 149 out to win his match and set a new league high-out in the process. Pioneer also reported that although they won, all the games were well played by both teams. That’s the news I like to hear reported – a good time was had by all.
Moose got its revenge on the Cabin beating them 16 – 3. Pat, Kristi and Rob from the Cabin had high scores of 140, 135 and 134 respectively in the losing effort and although Moose didn’t have any big darts, they did manage to find the doubles first for the win.
Hideaway A is on a hot streak winning another match, this time against Pioneer A. Hideaway had for high scores reported. Tom – 140, Jason – 140, Mike – 133 and Scott – 125. Either team captain Terry didn’t play or else he couldn’t keep up with the rest of his team. I’m sure he’ll let me know one way or the other. Final score Hideaway A 14, Pioneer A 5.
Flight Deck and Buckaroo was the final match of the night. Flight Deck won 13 to 6 with Keith leading the way with a 138 and supported by Mike shooting a 121. Buckaroo did not have any high darts; I guess their saving them for play-offs next week.
Speaking of Play-off’s, here are next week’s matches:
Moose Vs Hideaway B at the Moose
Cabin Tavern Vs Pioneer B at the Cabin
Hideaway A Vs Buckaroo at the Hideaway
Pioneer A Vs Flight Deck at Pioneer
Please don’t forget this is the play-offs, all matches best 2 out of 3 except the team game which is a single game. The first team to win 10 points wins the match and losing team is done for the season.
One more thing, since the season ends March 11th, several players have asked if I would put something together for a couple more weeks of play. I have something in mind and just need to know how many people would be interested in playing maybe another two or three weeks. If interested, please give me a call.
If you have any questions about the play-offs or the additional play, please call and I will gladly explain the rules to you. Have fun and keep hitting those doubles.
Pat
With this week’s play in the books, the only thing left for the regular season is the final position round
before the play-offs start. And although mathematically several positions could change, the odds are the current standings will hold for the play-offs.
I was out of town on a business trip and asked Chuck to fill-in for me at the Cabin and he did a wonderful job leading the Cabin Tavern to a 16 to 3 victory over the Buckaroo. Chuck had two high scores a 140 and 123 which helped off-set Rob’s off night when he lost a singles and a doubles match.
Moose had another solid night beating Pioneer B 14 to 5. Apparently this is the second week in a row that both Pioneer teams were home, which means I may have to relook the schedule for next year. Alvin didn’t seem to mind the crowd though, shooting a 112 on to start one of his matches. Good Darts Alvin.
Flight Deck also had a good night, beating Hideaway B 14 to 5. Mike led the way for Flight Deck shooting several scores in the hundreds before finally hitting a 140. Keith also pitched in and won a match with a 108 off.
Pioneer A was on the losing end for the second week in a row and to add insult to injury, it was the second straight lost at home. Pioneer started strong winning 6 of the first eight singles, before Hideaway A could find its target. But once they did, Hideaway stormed back winning 3 doubles and the team game for a 11 to 8 victory. The only high score reported was for our League President, Tom Garrett who shot a 128.
So, who shots who this coming week, the answer is:
Moose Vs Cabin Tavern at the Moose
Hideaway A and Pioneer A go at it one more time at the Hideaway
Flight Deck Vs the Buckaroo at the Flight Deck
Pioneer B and Hideaway B will play at the Pioneer.
Good Luck and let’s enjoy the last few weeks of darts.
Pat
Play-offs are just around the corner and Hideaway A is making its move just in time. Hideaway A gave smoked Buckaroo last night 19 to 0, and although Mike for the Buckaroo turned in some impressive scores (140, 140 and 125) along with a high-on of 112. Apparently Hideaway play solid darts and didn’t get rattled, it also didn’t hurt that Tom and Scott both started their games with high-ons of 121 and 120 respectively. Good Darts Hideaway, with two weeks left it will be interesting to see where they are going to end up.
Cabin Tavern ended the night with a solid score beating Pioneer A 14 to 5. But that was not the way it started. Pioneer took full advantage of Cabin in the single matches and won five out of 8 singles before Cabin settled down and started playing. Cabin was led by strong shooting from the Pace family. Rob shot a 137 and a121, while his wife Kristi answered with a 133 and 123. Thanks for the support guys.
Big scores can come from lower placed teams, as Pioneer B’s Josh proved when he shot a 180 and won his match last night against Hideaway B. Not quite a big, but Sam for Hideaway shot a 121 to try and keep Hideaway in the match. But in the end, Pioneer overwhelmed Hideaway with the final score: Pioneer B 13 – Hideaway B 6.
Our final match of the week is Moose Vs Flight Deck. Moose was led by Greek who shot a 140 and supported by Alvin who score 123. Flight Deck answered with Mike who won a point by taking 114 out. In the end, Moose 12 – Flight Deck 7.
I would also like to take just a moment to talk about the play-offs. For the new shooters in our league, here is how it will work. Round
1: 1st plays 8th, 2nd plays 7th, 3rd plays 6th and 4th plays 5th. In the second round, the winning team with the highest regular season seeding will play the remaining team with the lowest regular season seeding. This is not a bracketed play-off, so don’t think of it like that. Also, all matches are best 2 out-of 3, with the exception being the team game which is a single game. First team to win 10 point wins the match and gets to move on.
If you have any questions, please call and I will gladly explain the rules to you. Have fun and keep hitting those doubles.
Pat
For the first time this season, Flight Deck recorded the highest number of wins for the week and thus gets top billing this week.
Flight Deck hosted Pioneer B this week for one of the highest scoring matches of the week. Flight Deck was led by Mike who shot a 140 and assisted by Keith with a 121. Josh turned in the highest score of the week with a 145. In the end, Flight Deck won 15 to 4.
A minor upset occurred this week when Hideaway B played Moose and scored 5 points. Now this might not seem like much, but last time these two teams played, Hideaway came away empty handed. Moose won 14 to 5 with high scores turned in by Dean with a 140 and Conrad a 125. But the real stars of the night were Hideaway’s Al who won both of this singles and Anna who took a double 3 out to win the team game to give Hideaway their 5 points. As Hideaway showed, it’s not always about winning. Sometimes it’s just about respect.
Hideaway A was visiting the Cabin Tavern and also walked away with 5 points, but I don’t think that is what they wanted. Cabin shot solid darts all night, while Hideaway struggled most of the night. In fact at one of their low points, no matter how hard they tried Scott and Tom could not find a double-on and was skunked in their doubles match. Something you don’t see very often. The big guns of the night was Mike for the Hideaway scoring a 135 and Rob for the Cabin shooting a 125. Final Score Cabin 14 Hideaway A 5.
Buckaroo stunned Pioneer A this week beating them 11 to 8. There were several good scores called in, but the only one I will mention is John from Pioneer who scored a 140. I think the biggest outcome of this match is Pioneer will probably be looking for blood next week when they play Cabin.
I want to thank everyone who called in, please remember to let me know if the scores are for high-on’s / off’s or just points. Thanks again and I’ll talk with you next week.
Pat
OK, maybe it was only a cup full, but when the only team not to lose a match finally does, I’ve got to talk about it.
Second place Cabin Tavern hosted the undefeated Moose last night, in what started as a blow-out and ended as a tight match. Cabin jumped to an early 6-2 lead in the singles and even won the first doubles, before Moose started on the comeback trail. Unfortunately for Moose it was just a little too late. There were some outstanding moments though, like in Dean and Sean’s doubles match. Dean ramped things up with a 180 and right behind him Sean shot a 125, just missing his 180. Conrad is probably the unsung hero for Moose, since it was his singles game in which he shot a 140 and got the win, really turned thing around for Moose. Pat for the Cabin also keeping things close, shooting a 123 and a 140, also missing his 180’s on the last dart.
Final score Cabin 10 Moose 9.
Hideaway had an in house night, when both Hideaway A and B played each other. Hideaway A won the match 15 to 4, but I think Anna wanted to make the statement that Hideaway B has a shooter, when she shot a 124. Good darts Anna.
Pioneer also had all teams home, when Pioneer A and B played each other for bragging rights. Pioneer A came out on top 15 to 4, however there was no high darts of any kind reported. Either it was a really boring night or they just forgot to write things down. Who knows!
Buckaroo and Flight Deck was the final match of the night, with Flight Deck pulling a minor upset, beating Buckaroo 12 to 7. It appears Duane for Buck’s couldn’t stop the lost, even with his nice 124.
Three regular season weeks left, at this rate I might have to start looking for my fishing pole! Have fun and I’ll see you next week.
Pat
Good games all across the league, here is a quick highlight on how everyone did.
Cabin Tavern visited the Hideaway this week and managed to come away with a win, but it was not for a lack of effort by Hideaway B. Rob started the night with a 112 on and went on to skunk Maryann in the first match. Not to be intimated, Sam for the Hideaway also shot a 112 on, but could hold the lead and ended up losing the game. Kristi led the Cabin to victory shooting a 140 in the team match to secure a 15 to 4 win for the Cabin.
Pioneer A was also looking to improve their standings in the league, by beating Fight Deck 12 to 7. Although Mike from Flight Deck tried to keep them in the match by shooting a 137, Pioneer answered with Dave shooting a 140 and John starting a match with 136. Maybe Flight Deck with have better luck next week against the Buckaroo!
Moose and Hideaway A went toe-to-toe last night, with Moose coming out on-top. The heavy hitters for Moose was Sean with a 140 and 135, Greek a 140 and Dean 135. Hideaway answered with Tom shooting a 120 on and Scott hitting a 101 on. Although down early in the match Hideaway came back to win the final three matches to make the night look respectable. Final score Moose 10, Hideaway A 9.
Buckaroo and Pioneer B was another two teams looking for a win. With Steve for Pioneer shooting a 140 and Mike from Buckaroo scoring 125 the only high scores of the night, this match must have come down to the outs. Which in the end, apparently Buckaroo found one more that Pioneer. Buckaroo 10, Pioneer B 9.
With only four weeks left in the regular season, the next two weeks should give us a clear picture on who will be where for the play-offs. So keep hitting those doubles and have fun.
Pat
First, let me apologize two both of my loyal readers. My computer and I had a disagreement and we just final resolved the issue. So, now that my groveling is out of the way, along with the Christmas presents for Helga, the champagne for the New Year and the comb webs for not playing the last few weeks, on to the dart scores.
The Cabin Tavern hosted Pioneer B this week and politely popped their cork
17 to 2. Being the good sport they are, they did not appear to take the beating to seriously and was smiling the entire evening. It could have been the alcohol, but I would rather say it was the company. Also having a good time was Kristi, she shot a 140, 125 and another 125. Rob didn’t want to be out done, so he also shot a 140. Pat and Helga didn’t have any high scores, but they did have a 116 and 105 on respectively.
Pioneer A also had an enjoyable evening, when the celebrated the win over Hideaway B 16 to 3. Although as far as I can tell the only two people to really party was John who shot a 140 and Zack with a 138. I guess you take what you can get and move on.
Moose and Buckaroo provided a little entertainment, when Moose spun the Buckaroo to a 13 to 6 lose. Sean and Dean appeared to be doing the two step with Sean taking the slight lead. Dean scored a 137 and a 125, but Sean shot a 125 and a 121, along with a 104 out. Mike from the Buckaroo didn’t want the Moose to have all the fun, he also shot a 125 and a 121.
Hideaway A and Flight Deck was both looking for a win to start the New Year, but in the end it was Hideaway getting the New Years wish, 11 to 8. Actually this could have been our league Presidents wish, since he (Tom) had a high score of 128 and a high-on of 105. Is this the first time Tom had his name TWICE on the Readum & Weep?
Anyway, I just want to say it’s good to be back and playing darts on Thursday.
See you in the double ring. Pat
