Well all things come to an end sooner or later. The second season for Express Trios at PJ’s closed up with the finals last night. Now before the matches were played, each team had already received its cash for each win of the season. Here’s the money each team collected for win during the season.

‘til Closing – $57.00
Bandits - $60.00
Game Over - $66.00
Don’t Care - $75.00
The Bubbas - $105.00
Dirty’s Crew – $120.00

Not a bad chunk of change since each team paid $90.00 towards the payout pot. Overall I think it was a cheap, fun excuse to get out of the house and come shoot some darts when the fee per player for the complete season was $40.50.

Anyways, enough of the number crunching let me tell you how the play offs went.

Game #1
Bandits (0) vs Game Over (5)
Living true to their name, Game Over brought the end to the match in 5 games straight. Hmmm what to say about the Bandits, thanks for playing…

Game #2
‘til Closing (5) vs Don’t Care (3)
Now here was a long match, lasting a little over 2 hours. They seesawed back and forth until ‘til Closing got a grasp on the lead and ran. With 4 wins under their belt, ‘til Closing were zeroing in for the win when Don’t Care, really, didn’t care about the score and grabbed another win. Upon learning their free lesson, ‘til Closing in the next game controlled the score and got the win to wrap up the match.

Game #3
Game Over (4) vs Dirty’s Crew (5)
Let me start by saying wow. Margaret, Heather and Alvin threw awesome together. In fact, coming towards the end of the match, Dirty’s Crew found themselves on the losing end of the score and needed desperately to win the next two. Game Over tried not to let Dirty’s Crew back in the games, but in the end Dirty’s Crew stole the win. I’m going to say stole too, every match was close, and for the most part each player threw great.

Game #4
‘til Closing (2) vs The Bubbas (5)
I’m going to start by asking, how long does it take to drive from Kenai to Anchorage. The answer if you’re Joe Rose, 2.5 hours. The match started and it looked early on like it maybe a battle of the wits. 2 games won to each team, it looked like it may be a battle to the end. Well then the chains came off and the match turned. The Bubbas mustered the next three wins to grab the match.

Game #5
The Bubbas (1) vs Dirty’s Crew (5)
Dirty’s Crew jumped to a quick lead grabbing the first 3 games. Not counted out yet, The Bubbas did grab 1 game to try to knock their opponents off track. It didn’t work, Dirty’s Crew dove in and grabbed the next 2 game to wrap up the match.

1st place - $300.00
Dirty’s Crew

2nd place - $150.00
The Bubbas

I want to say thanks to every one that played the Express Trios format. It’s different and I know, but I think all and all, something a little different is what those of us that played were looking for. I need to say a big thanks to Hallie there at PJ’s. He put in the money into both leagues to make the payouts worthwhile and giving use a place to play. What’s in the future, well, nothing until summer comes upon us again. I know that the huge payout from the first season was nice, but I think overall, paying out the wins is a good option that people like. It works in many other leagues, why not darts. I do like the caps for teams, but I’m afraid, short of sanctioning with NDA, and having our stats count, I can’t think of how to keep the playing field level. I am proud to say that with 2 seasons behind us, that’s 15 weeks, there was 0 forfeits. It’s unique, non-handicapped straight up play. It’s cheap. It’s played fairly quickly. We’ll have to see come next summer if it’s around and what changes have been thought up. I’ll see you all on the throw line.
